Energy bills these days are incredibly high, but that doesn’t mean that you should make significant sacrifices in order to make sure that you are capable of lowering these costs. You also don’t have to waste any money on green power gadgets, although they might be more reliable and feasible over time.
We’ve put together a list of tips and tricks that you could do to save some money you’d otherwise have to spend on paying those pesky bills. Check them out below.
Heat and air conditioning
One of the major problems of Americans today is that they depend on their air conditioners too much. Compared to Europeans, who apparently have little to zero issues when it comes to getting dressed properly or just adding an extra layer of clothes, Americans use the AC pretty much all the time.
As you can imagine, that triggers sky-high costs. So if you feel like you’re a bit warm, make an iced drink, change your clothes, place your feet in cold water, or whatever trick you might be able to use. On the other hand, if it’s too cold in your home, just wear thicker clothes or put a sweater on instead of powering the AC.
What about your laundry?
There are several measures you can ensure to lower your electric bills also when it comes to your laundry. In the summer, just avoid using the dryer altogether. Get one of those drying racks or clothes airers available for as little as fifteen dollars at some retailers and enjoy the wonderful gift of heat and wind that we’ve been blessed with.
Do your laundry after 8 pm if your power company offers discounted rates during non-peak hours. Besides, you might not have to use the same amount of heat for all types of laundry, especially T-shirts in the summer. If you know that the clothes you want to wash aren’t soiled, just use a lighter and shorter cleaning program.
Smart vacuuming
If you are like most other people, you probably own a big and hefty vacuum cleaner that you dread taking out of wherever it’s kept. But your floors and carpets have to be cleaned somehow, so you use it regularly anyway, even if you find it cumbersome to maneuver. Well, the fact is that there are many other ways of keeping your floors clean. One of them is getting a steam mop, such as a good one from Shark.
Another would be to opt for an electric broom instead of your hefty vacuum. This type of alternative can help you clean up spills that are naturally bound to happen in any kitchen. Some of these gadgets use very little power, especially as they aren’t made to handle demanding tasks, and so their performance is limited. But that’s a pro, in this case, not a con.
