  1. There is so much more than Madrid and Barcelona. Spain is a big, beautiful country. Spain offers an eccentric mix of bustling coastal towns, modern cities, and incredible countryside. You can experience coastal Catalonia at Tossa de Mar, ‘The Lost Village’ of El Acebuchal, the historic Alcázar Castle, the magical Mojacar and so much more.
  2. Spaniards love their afternoon siesta. Most of the shops and establishments are usually closed between 1 and 4 PM. You’ll absolutely enjoy this siesta period!
  3. Spain is huge! The country is made up of 17 semi-autonomous regions, each one with its unique culture. As you journey through Spain, you will see that every turn feels like a different country.
  4. The country doesn’t only speak Spanish. Spain has 6 official languages. These include Castilian Spanish, Galician, Basque, Aragonese, Asturian and Leonese.
  5. Also, do not expect everyone to speak English. Rather, we recommend you learn a few words and sentences in Spanish.
  6. Spanish summers are hottt! Be prepared because temperatures can get brutally high to 100+ Farhenheit degrees during July and August.
  7. Dinner is late, mostly post 9 PM. This is because the biggest meal of the day is usually lunch which happens between 2 – 4. Breakfast is light too.
  8. Head to the region of Andalusia for the best tapas. The city of Granada is known to serve free tapas with every drink you order. But do not expect free tapas everywhere you go.
  9. While in the north, try the Pintxos.
  10. Apart from exploring the cities, you can also go island-hopping. The Balearic and Canary Islands of Spain are laid back and at the same time offer exciting adventurous activities like cliff jumping, cruise parties, and snorkelling.
  11. People of Spain are not very conservative, yet it is advised that you dress modestly.
  12. Tipping in restaurants in Spain is not mandatory, but customary. If you are happy with the food or service, make sure you leave some tips. Similarly, if you are watching a street performer for more than 5 minutes, make sure that you pay them some money.
  13. Always keep the change handy. Whether buying a bottle of water, or a survivor to take home, or tipping your server. You never know when you’ll need it.
  14. For those looking to let their hair down and party late into the night, do not venture alone at night, especially in smaller towns. But if you do plan to head out, make sure you are in a group.
  15. The famous beaches are always crowded. Do not miss out on exploring the lesser crowded beaches. These beaches will have cheaper drinking and eating options.
